The Renaissance Tower in Dallas, Texas is the second tallest skyscraper in Dallas. Standing at a structural height of 270 meters (886 feet), it is also the 5th tallest building in Texas and the 21st tallest building in the United States. The building contains 56 stories of office space. Construction was completed in 1974 and it was rennovated in 1986.
The building is located at 1201 Elm Street in downtown Dallas, Texas.
The building's 56 stories were completed in 1974 at which time it was the tallest building in Dallas at 710 feet. In 1985, it was surpassed by the Fountain Place building and the Bank of America Plaza, which became Dallas' tallest building by far. It was also clear that the Renaissance Tower would be overtaken by two other buildings under construction.
Therefore, in order to regain some status, the building underwent a major rennovation in 1986 which reconstructed the exterior of the building and placed several decorative steelwork towers on the top of the building, one of which was 176 feet tall. This brought the structural height of the building up to 886 feet, securing its place as the second tallest building in Dallas. (However, if one were to exclude antennas and spires, the Renaissance Tower is currently the fifth tallest building in Dallas.)
