Resita is a city in western Romania and capital of Caras-Severin County, in the foothills of the Transylvanian Alps. An important iron and steel center, Resita is the site of blast furnaces, iron foundries, and plants producing electrical appliances, chemicals, machinery, and metals. A mining center in Roman times, the present-day city was founded in the 18th century when a foundry was established here. Population (2000) 94.580.
