Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. (born 1957) is the governor of Maryland. He is a member of the United States Republican Party. He became governor in 2003 after defeating Democrat Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, a member of the Kennedy political dynasty 51%-48% in the 2002 elections.
