Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index The Honourable Rosemary Brown (June 17, 1930 - April 26, 2003), Canadian politician, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to Canada in 1951 to study at McGill University. She served as an MLA in the British Columbia legislature from 1972 to 1986, making her the first Black woman to be elected to a Canadian provincial legislature. In 1975, she ran for the leadership of the federal NDP party, but was defeated by Ed Broadbent on the determining ballot. Because of all her hard work and dedication, she was sworn to the Queen's Privy Council of Canada. After departing politics, she became a professor of women's studies at Simon Fraser University. She passed away suddenly in April of 2003. Rosemary Brown was also a spirit medium who claimed that dead composers dictated new musical works to her. This article is from Wikipedia.
