Salem Township is a township located in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 852.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 42.1 km² (16.3 mi²). 41.6 km² (16.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.23% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 852 people, 311 households, and 250 families residing in the township. The population density is 20.5/km² (53.0/mi²). There are 349 housing units at an average density of 8.4/km² (21.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.06% White, 0.00% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 311 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.8% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.6% are non-families. 15.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.06. In the township the population is spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
