Sam & Dave were an American soul duo, known as one of the best and earliest soul groups. Samuel Moore and David Prater met in Miami in 1961, singing to Roulette Records before moving to Stax in 1965. Their debut recording was "You Don't Know Like I Know" (1966), which was followed by a seres of hits, including "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby" (1967) and "I Thank You" (1968). Label and personality problems contributed to their break-up in 1970.

Sam & Dave reunited several times during the 1970s, partially due to The Blues Brothers' obvious debt to the duo. As was later revealed, drug problems contributed to the pair instability; Prater was arrested for selling crack-cocaine to an undercover policeman. In 1988, Prater died and only Moore lived until the pair were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
