The racial makeup of the county is 98.51% White, 0.59% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 9,795 households out of which 27.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.40% are married couples living together, 9.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.30% are non-families. 26.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.82.
