Scottsboro is a city located in Jackson County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 14,762. The city is the county seat of Jackson County.

The racial makeup of the city is 91.11% White, 5.34% Black or African American, 1.02% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,224 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 29.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.85.
