Species: Archosargus probatocephalus

These marine fish grow to 30", are deep and compressed in body shape with 5-6 dark bars on the side of the body over a gray background. They are found in muddy, shallow water, often over oyster beds or around piers. They range from Sea Girt to Manasquan, but are absent in the Caribbean. Its flesh is considered to have excellent taste and consistency.
