It continues to serve in the People's Liberation Army Air Force and the Air Forces of numerous other nations. It is often also known as the J-6. The aircraft serves as an interceptor, but it has a ground-attack capability. It's maximum speed is mach 1.2. It can reach a ceiling of 17,900 meters and has a range of 685 km.
