SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) is loop of superconductors that contains one or more Josephson junctions. Squid is also a derogatory term referring to a motorcyclist, typically on a sportbike, that rides with minimum of safety gear, no rider training and poor skill while attempting to ride faster than their ability allows. The term is derived from the 1960's when Navy Sailors would dock in San Diego, they would purchase two-stroke motorcycles (which typically spew black smoke) and ride them around, with a minimum of safety gear while drunk.
