The incantation used to make the spell work is, "Stupefy". It is a very useful spell, used by Harry Potter many times. It can, however, do a lot damage. This was demonstrated in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Professor Minerva McGonagall, on the order of Dolores Jane Umbridge, was hit by four stunning spells and had to be taken to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
