Submarine launched ballistic missiles or SLBM's are ballistic missiles delivering nuclear weapons that are launched from submarines. Modern variants usually deliver multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) each of which carries a warhead and allows a single launched missile to strike a handful of targets.

The ballistic missile submarines had great strategical importance for the USA and Soviet Union during the Cold War, as they could hide from satellite surveillance and fire their nuclear weapons without much warning, even close to the opponent's coast.
