The Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia was the first National Parliament of the Republic of Georgia in the post-Soviet era (in 1990 - 1992). The parliamentary elections of October 28, 1990 were the first democratic, multiparty elections in the Caucasus. Chairmen of the Supreme Council were Zviad Gamsakhurdia (the first democratically elected President in 1991-1992) and Akaki Asatiani. After military coup d'etat of December-January, 1991-1992, the Supreme Council, Government and President Gamsakhurdia were forced to leave Georgia.
