The municipality covers an area of 28.34 km² (of which 0.70 km² water). The former municipality of Susteren also includes the following towns, villages and townships: Baakhoven, Dieteren, Heide, Illikhoven, Kokkelert, Nieuwstadt, Oevereind, Oud-Roosteren, Roosteren, Visserweert and has merged with Echt to form Echt-Susteren.
