Thaddeus Maxim Eugene (Ted) Dikty (1920-1991) was one of the earliest science fiction anthologists. He started the first "Best of the Year" anthologies, called The Best Science Fiction and which ran from 1949 until 1957. In 1952, he married writer Julian May, and in 1957 the two started an editorial service for specialty children's publishers. In 1976, Dikty founded the specialty publisher Starmont House, which published non-fiction about the science fiction field. At the time of his death, he and his wife lived in Mercer Island, Washington.
