Tabaré Vázquez is the leader of the Uruguayan Broad Front Political Party (Frente Amplio in Spanish) and its presidential candidate in 1999 and in 1994. In the 1999 elections he received 48% percent of the vote in an election and he is widely expected to win the upcoming elections in November 2004. He is often compared to Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil.
