In fact, the city's name is simply Chinese for "Central Taiwan." Taichung is famous for Tai Yang Bing (太陽餅), Sun Cakes. Taichung is home to Chung-hsing University (中興大學), Fengchia University (逢甲大學), Providence University (靜宜大學), and Tunghai University (東海大學).
