Tamarac is a city located in Broward County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 55,588.

census of 2000, there are 55,588 people, 27,423 households, and 15,740 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,884.3/km² (4,879.8/mi²). There are 29,750 housing units at an average density of 1,008.5/km² (2,611.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.08% White, 10.51% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.48% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.91% from other races, and 2.80% from two or more races. 14.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 27,423 households out of which 15.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.8% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% are non-families. 36.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.00 and the average family size is 2.56. In the city the population is spread out with 13.4% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 37.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
