Tammy Baldwin (born February 11, 1962), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the Second Congressional District of Wisconsin. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, she attended Smith College, and obtained a Law degree from the University of Wisconsin. She served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1993 to 1999 and was elected to the House in 1998. A lesbian, she was the first openly gay person who was not an incumbent to be elected to the House of Representatives.
