They are usually used to develop documentation for software APIss, microcontroller operation and other technical elements. Technical writing must be accurate, readable and accessible. Because of the difficulty in finding those experienced in prose and technical subjects, good technical writers can come at a premium. Technical writers usually have degrees in English and some knowledge of the technical field for which they are writing. Any documentation the writer produces is normally proofread for accuracy by an expert in the subject. For example, a technical writer who has intermediate C++ programming experience develops documentation for a library's API his company has developed. After he is finished, he delivers the documentation to the library's development staff to review and comment on.
