Part of the Toho studio's Godzilla series, it was directed by Koji Hashimoto with special effects by Teruyoshi Nakano. The first of the "new" Heisei Godzilla films, it was the intent of the director to try to restore some of the characteristics of the early films in the series. After destroying a Russian submarine, Godzilla almost triggers World War III.
