Timoci Uluivunda Bavadra (1934-1989) was a medical doctor who served for one month as the Prime Minister of Fiji in 1987 and who founded the Fiji Labour Party. Bavadra led a government that garnered support from both of the country's ethnic groups, a rarity in Fijian politics. He was also opposed to nuclear testing, which caused the United States to back Sitiveni Rabuka in the coup that brought down Bavadra's government. Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara then took office as prime minister. Bavadra died two years later of cancer.
