Twyla Tharp, (born July 1 1941), American dancer and choreographer who won three Emmy Awards for her [1985] television production Baryshnikov by Tharp.

After graduating in Art History she joined the Paul Taylor Dance Company in [1963]. She formed her own group in [1965].

Her work has encompassed classical music, jazz and contemporary pop music.

She has choreographed dances for several films including:

  • Ragtime
  • Amadeus
  • White Nights
