It aims to "liberate" Assam through armed national liberation struggle from the clutches of the "illegal" occupation of India and to establish a sovereign independent Assam. By its claims, the movement is not secessionist as Assam was never a part of India. It has been illegally occupied by India. On January 10, 2004 it blew up a pipeline belonging to ONGC in Assam.
