The Honda VF series (and later the more reliable and successful VFR models) were a breakthrough design from Honda resulting in what is generally accepted to be the best all-round motorcycle built to-date. The early VF models (interceptor) were beset by reliability problems with the cam chains. With the VFR, the cam chain was dropped in favor of gear driven cams, reliability problems were solved, and the V-Four engine in the VFR would go on to power one of the greatest motorcycles ever made.
The RC-30 was the successful racing version, replaced later by the RC-45. In 1998 the VFR 750 was replaced by a re-designed 800 cc version, and in 2002 the VTEC version was release which dropped the gear driven cams.
