Wiluna is a small town located 966 kilometres East of Perth, 185 kilometres east of Meekatharra, and 518 metres above sea level. It is situated on the edge of the desert at the gateway to the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway.

It came into existence after gold was first discovered there in 1891 by William Earl and John Connelley. Gold mining in the district once supported a population of 9,000 people.

The main township was built in the 1930s and is now home to approximately 300 people.
