The Zimbabwe African National Union was a political party formed as a breakaway of the more militant nationalsts from the Zimbabwe African People's Union. Its founder was the Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole(1920-2000),who was supported by Robert Mugabe in the early years of guerrilla struggle. However, they went their separate ways, with Mugabe's Zanu-PF ultimately dominating the country from 1980 onwards, while Sithole's Zanu-Ndonga struggled to maintain support.
