To help compare different orders of magnitude we list here masses between 1011 kilograms (100 megatonnes) and 1012 kilograms (1 gigatonne). See also masses of other orders of magnitude.

  • Lighter masses
  • 450 million tonnes: mass of world's human population (assuming 70 kg/person, population between 6 and 6.5 × 109, this is correct to one significant digit - and malnutrition etc would not affect that degree of accuracy)
  • 100-800 million tonnes: estimated biomass of Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba, thought to be the most plentiful creature on the planet
  • Heavier masses
