Ahmad Tejan Kabbah (born 1932) is the president of Sierra Leone. He worked for the United Nations Development Program, and returned to Sierra Leone in 1992. He was elected president in 1996. His period of rule has been marked with a bloody civil war with the Revolutionary United Front, led by Foday Sankoh, which involed him being temporarily ousted from May 1997 to March 1998, but is now in a secure position after United Nations and United Kingdom involvement.
