AirTrain is the brand name for the airport light rail systems operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

AirTrain Newark

AirTrain Newark is a 1.9-mile monorail system connecting Newark Liberty International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station on the Northeast Corridor rail line of NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak. Construction began in 1997, and the system opened for service on October 21, 2001.

AirTrain JFK

AirTrain JFK is a more ambitious 8.1-mile light rail system connecting ten points within John F. Kennedy International Airport to Jamaica on the Long Island Railroad and New York Subway E, J and Z lines, as well as to Howard Beach on the subway A line. Construction began in 1998 for completion in 2002, but was delayed by the derailment of a test train in September 2002, killing operator Kelvin DeBorgh. The system finally opened after over a year's delay on December 17, 2003.
