Alviso is a small community in Santa Clara County, California. It is located at the north end of San Jose where it meets the southern end of the San Francisco Bay.

The Guadalupe and Coyote rivers both end at Alviso, emptying into the Bay through the Alviso Slough. In 1983, Alviso was victom to severe flooding caused by El Niņo.

Alviso was first settled in the 1700s. Since 1968, Alviso has been part of the city of San Jose.

Originally, Alviso was a boating and shipping port, providing a link between San Jose and the Bay. That usage declined with the growth in railroad transportation between San Francisco and San Jose.

Today, industry is gone from Alviso, leaving it mostly residential.
