Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici (1667-1743), wife of Johann Wilhelm II, Elector Palatine (1690-1716), was the last of the Medicis; notable because on her death, she willed all the personal property, art and treasures of the Medicis, the massive accumulations of generations, to the Florentine state - provided that nothing was ever removed from Florence. It is in good part due to this action that we can today enjoy a Florence that gives us a real feeling for what the Florence of the Renaissance must have been like.
