An anonymous remailer is a server that receives messages with embedded instructions on where to send them next and forwards them without revealing where they came from. There are Cypherpunk anonymous remailers, Mixmaster anonymous remailers, and nym servers.

Remailers often go down without warning. It is therefore important to use up-to-date statistics when choosing remailers. Statistics can be obtained from the following sites and others:
