Anton Szandor LaVey (11 April 1930 - 31 October 1997) was the founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan.

Anton LaVey was born in Chicago, but spent most of his life in San Francisco, California.

He had a lifelong love of philosophy, the occult, and the dark side of human nature. On 30 April 1966 he founded the Church of Satan.

An eclectic individual, he was fond of music, painting, antique automobiles, firearms, and animals (particularly the big cats). He was survived by his mate, Blanche Barton, son Xerxes, and daughters Karla and Zeena.
