Aurora is a city located in Kane County, Illinois and DuPage County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 142,990.
WGN TV's principal meteorologist, Tom Skilling, hails from Aurora and is a graduate of West Aurora High School.
The characters of Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, portrayed by Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, respectively, on Saturday Night Live and in both Wayne's World movies hailed from Aurora, and most of their adventures were centered there.
The Stonebridge Country Club, which is located in Aurora, is home to the LPGA's annual Kellogg-Keebler Classic golf tournament. Aurora is also the location of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 102.1 km² (39.4 mi²). 99.8 km² (38.5 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.26% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 142,990 people, 46,489 households, and 34,215 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,432.9/km² (3,711.5/mi²). There are 48,797 housing units at an average density of 489.0/km² (1,266.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 68.07% White, 11.06% African American, 0.36% Native American, 3.06% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 14.52% from other races, and 2.90% from two or more races. 32.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 46,489 households out of which 44.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.04 and the average family size is 3.55.
