Eugenius claimed to be Roman Emperor (392 - 394).

Following the mysterious death of Valentinian II, the general Arbogast was forced to save his life by elevating the administrator Eugenius to emperor. A pagan, one of Eugenius's immediate acts was to restore the Altar of Victory to the Senate House in Rome.

Theodosius eventually confronted this rebellion, invading Italy and defeating Eugenius' army at the Battle of Frigidus on September 6, 394. Arbogast immediately committed suicide after the defeat, while Eugenius was held for execution as a criminal.
