H.L. Gold (1914-1996) was a science fiction writer and editor, most noted for being the editor of Galaxy Magazine. Gold first sold stories to the pulp magazines in the 1930's. After serving in WWII, he returned to writing and made his way into editing. He became editor of Galaxy in the early 1950's and made it into one of the premiere science fiction magazines of that decade. He left Galaxy in 1961 and died in 1996.
