HTLV stands for Human T-Lymphotropic Virus and it is a human, single-stranded RNA retrovirus from the subfamily Oncovirinae that causes T-cell leukaemia and T-cell lymphoma in adults and may also be involved in certain demyelinating diseases.

There is Type I, Type II and type III of HTLV. Type III is better known as HIV virus.
