Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins born on March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas, was a country blues guitar legend, from Houston, Texas.

He learned the blues in Buffalo, Texas from Blind Lemon Jefferson and his older cousin, country-blues singer Alger 'Texas' Alexander, with whom he was discovered by Lola Anne Cullum of Los Angeles' Alladdin Records (although Alexander would not make it out to LA.) He was an influence on Jimmie Vaughn's work.

Hopkins died January 30, 1982.
