Mixed martial arts (MMA) is the practice of holding organized martial arts matches with few or no rules and restrictions, as a ground to prove which martial arts styles, or aspects of those styles, work the best against in each other. Exact conditions for victory vary but usually involve submission by having one of the competitors "tap out" on the floor.

Because of the lack of restrictions, MMA fights can sometimes become gruesome.

Well-known examples of MMA are the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride Fighting Championships.
