It contains East Midlands Airport, which has flights to the rest of Britain and various places in Europe. It is also notable for Castle Donington, site of Donington Park, a grand-prix circuit and site for music festivals. In Parliament, it is represented by David Taylor (Labour). This district has a long history of mineral extraction, with coal, brick clay, gravel and limestone amongst the products. all the deep coal mines are now closed, but opencast continues.
