Registered Nurse (RN) is the U.S term for a professional [[nurse], licensed and registered by the state in which he or she practices. It is currently considered inappropriate and nonprofessional to wear the nursing cap, although it remains a symbol for nursing in our society. The history of nursing is respected, but the white dress and cap nursing uniform commonly depicted in the media has its roots in sexism. It is currently advocated only by those wishing to subordinate nursing professionals to other disciplines.
