Salina is a city located in Saline County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 45,679. It is the county seat of Saline County6.

The racial makeup of the city is 87.76% White, 3.57% African American, 0.56% Native American, 1.96% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 3.78% from other races, and 2.32% from two or more races. 6.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 18,523 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.98.
