San Bruno is a city located in San Mateo County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 40,165.

The city is adjacent to San Francisco International Airport.

\nSan Bruno is located at 37°37'31" North, 122°25'31" West (37.625288, -122.425266)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.5 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

census of 2000, there are 40,165 people, 14,677 households, and 9,921 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,840.3/km² (7,353.6/mi²). There are 14,980 housing units at an average density of 1,059.3/km² (2,742.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 57.65% White, 2.01% African American, 0.47% Native American, 18.69% Asian, 2.88% Pacific Islander, 10.82% from other races, and 7.48% from two or more races. 24.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 14,677 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.8% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.29.
