The Sauks or Sacs are a group of Native Americans whose occupied territory included parts of what is now Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Their refusal under their chief Black Hawk in 1832 to accept the continued theft of native lands led to their reduction in importance at the military hands of General Edmund Gaines in the Blackhawk War.

There is a town in the southwest of Wisconsin called Prairie du Sac, located in the Sauk County.
