Tromelin Island is an uninhabited one square kilometer island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, with no economic activity.

The island has a meteorological station but no ports or harbors and offers offshore anchorage only. As of 1999, there was one airport with an unpaved runway under 914 meters long.

Defense is the responsibility of France; the island is claimed by both Madagascar and Mauritius.
