Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Two ships of the United States Navy (and two of the Confederate States Navy) have been named USS Georgia in honor of the fourth state. The first USS Georgia (BB-15), a Virginia-class battleship, was provided training and convoy escort service during World War I, and became a transport to bring troops home after the war ended. The second USS Georgia (SSBN-729), the fourth Ohio-class submarine, no longer serves as a ballistic missile submarine, but will be converted into a guided missile submarine (SSGN).
