The USS Ward is best known as the ship that fired the first US shots of World War II. At the time, she was an old World War I veteran crewed by reservists from Minnesota who had been called up before the war to help patrol the waters of Hawaii. But Ward's history consists of more than just the attack on Pearl Harbor.
