Molde Airport Årø located at 62° 44' N, 07° 15' E was inaugurated in 1972, having been financed by the municipality of Molde, Norway following the construction of government-paid airports at Vigra near Ålesund and Kvernberget near Kristiansund. The construction was the culmination of a long-lasting discussion on the number and situations of airports in Møre og Romsdal. Its IATA Airport Code is MOL

The airport has one 1,640-meter runway in the direction of 07-25. A new passenger terminal opened in the early 1990s, serving approximately 300,000 passengers annually. Regular flights are operated by Braathens to Oslo, Trondheim, and Bergen, and Norwegian to Oslo. Weekly charter flights to Crete began in June 2003.

Plans to extend the runway to 2,100 meters will most likely be realized in a few years.
